800 MHz Public Safety
In March 2002, the Commission through a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, began a proceeding in which it sought proposals on how best to resolve interference to 800 MHz public safety systems consistent with minimum disruption to the existing licensing structure, while assuring sufficient spectrum for critical public safety communications. The primary objective of this proceeding being to explore all available options and alternatives for improving the spectrum environment of public safety operations in the 800 MHz band.
