Dedicated Short Range Communications and Intelligent Transportation Systems in the 5.9 GHz Band
In June 1998, the Commission proposed the allocation of 75 megahertz of spectrum for use by Dedicated Short Range Communications ("DSRC") of the Intelligent Transportation Systems ("ITS")[ET-98-95]. This proposal was followed in 1999 by a Report and Order which allocated the 5.9 GHz band for DSRC-based ITS applications and adopted basic technical rules for DSRC operations. By these actions the Commission sought to further the goals of the U.S. Congress, Department of Transportation and the ITS industry to improve the efficiency of the Nation's transportation infrastructure and to facilitate the growth of the ITS industry.
